Bear Stearns Meltdown Hits Internet
By DONNA BOGATIN • Apr 30th, 2008 • Category: BIG PICTUREHappy 15th Birthday World Wide Web! While Tim Berners-Lee envisions a rosy Web future, there is still much to contend with at present: Ask Jonathan Zittrain or Bear Stearns.
“CANCELLATION OF EVENT“ is how the once great U.S. financial institution has unceremoniously obliterated the “19th Annual Technology Communications Internet Conference” that had been scheduled for the first week of June. More than 170 tech companies were to have showcased their services, Fortune 500s and upstarts alike.
The original Bear Stearns pitch:
We have focused this conference to hopefully provide an incremental aspect to investors’ investment mosaics.
Bear Stearns, however, has been unable to even handle its own “investment mosaics.”
Jonathan Zittrain warns we better start handling the entire Internet better, if there is to be any viable future for the World Wide Web, as he exposes in his new book “The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It.”
