Just as a big, geek early adopter embrace of a “cool app” does not translate to inevitable so-called “viral loop” prime time traction, a Michael TechCrunch Arrington financial and editorial endorsement of a “cool app” does not automatically spur critical early adoption mass.

Arrington’s own Edgeio is history. What will become of his latest direct Web 2.0 investment: Seesmic?

Arrington is a personal financial partner and business editorial friend of Loic LeMeur’s Seessmic. Arrington announced his TechCrunch adoption of investee Seesmic’s product last week, “video comments on all TechCrunch blogs,“ while pointing out, “”you‘ll need to create a Seesmic account…”

The predictable initial TechCrunch effect kicked-in for Arrington’s Seesmic: Dozens obediently “commented” via video, the Seesmic kind. Also predictably, however, just days later, the full TechCrunch effect manifested as video comments are also becoming but “rounding errors” at TechCrunch.

Despite Arrington plugging his Seesmic at the end of every TechCrunch post–“or add a video comment with Seesmic”–the initial TechCruch video comment enthusiasm has not been sustained: Posts generally now have either zero video comments or one sole video comment.

Nevertheless, while even Arrington can’t escape his own TechCrunch effect, Web 2.0 cool apps may eventually find it is better to have been geek loved and lost then to never have been geek loved at all!
